About Our Sports Analytics Blog
The Data Jocks is a sports analytics blog relying entirely on mathematical foundations to drive insights for sports fans. Created by Jonathan Ashbrock in early 2020, our focus is mathematically rigorous foundations applied to sports analytics. While we strive to use innovative ideas from theoretical mathematics, our the analysis and articles on our blog are written for the general sports audience.
Jonathan is a Mathematics PhD who attended the University of Dayton for his undergraduate degree and Vanderbilt for graduate school and now lives and works in Northern Virginia. A lifelong sports fan and a career mathematician, his passions lie in marrying those two worlds.
This website has three goals:
- To increase the understanding of sports with easily understand and clearly explained stats
- To increase the understanding of math with sports as a key application and example
- To contain original research on sports analytics I’ve written about over the years.
