Alexander Mattison Fantasy Fantasy Football Four Factors

This kind of thing happens from time to time with four factors and data driven analysis. If you only look at stats and past performance, there is no way that Alexander Mattison should be drafted as highly as he is. But for him, stats don’t tell the whole story.

Alexander Mattison has a 1.5/10 pedigree score. This would correspond to one of the worst rosterable players in fantasy football.

Even worse, Alexander Mattison only put up a 2/10 in the consistency category. This is a mix of having inconsistent performance over the last few years as well as, much more importantly, having extremely low snap counts.

To top it all off, Alexander Mattison has a bad trend score indicating his performance got worse last year. Mattison tallied a 3/10 trend score.

But the key story with Mattison is the departure of Dalvin Cook. This is the proper context needed. The trend score makes sense because two years ago, Dalvin Cook missed games. So it looks like Mattison got worse in 2022 when really it was just a return to Dalvin Cook hogging the playing time.

The same two factors explains why Alexander Mattison’s pedigree and consistency scores are so low. He was a career backup but is being given the chance this year to start. This is why Alexander Mattison gets a strong 6.5/10 consensus score.

Alexander Mattison Stats Analysis

The Vikings were a fascinating team last year. They won 13 games while having a negative point differential. They’re probably closer to a league-average team. But there is no denying that Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson are a hard problem for opposing defenses to solve.

A good passing game is always good for running backs. The question this year is if the Vikings offense can stay as good as it was last year. If so, Mattison’s consensus ranking is well-deserved.
