Akers lost nearly his entire 2021 season to injury. He played one game, got four touches, then his season ended. This injury colors his four factors stats so it is helpful to have the right context. 

Akers was only OK in most of the 2022 season. He was splitting carries with Darrell Henderson for most of the season. This led to (a) inconsistency via low snap percentage and (b) decreased ability to score points. This is why he has a 2/10 consistency score. It is also why he has a 1.5/10 pedigree score. 

Both of these numbers are reflective of Akers not playing in 2021 and playing only here and there for the first half of 2022. But then, in the second half of the season, Akers’ efficiency skyrocketed. He went from 1-2 yards per carry to 5-6. The coaches must have seen this because they rewarded him with many more touches. This is how Akers ended up with a 10/10 trend score. 

This is one of the best trend scores of anyone we measured. Most of the other 10s were flukes (like Deshaun Watson and his small sample size). Cam Akers trend was significant and sustained. 

This is why Cam Akers has earned his 6.5/10 expert consensus score. This means that the experts see Akers as around the RB20 mark, a bit above where his ADP sits at the time of writing this. 

Cam Akers Stats Analysis

The most exciting thing for Akers drafters is that they are giving him the nod with nobody else really in the backfield. No veterans were brought in to split carries. The Rams spent a sixth round pick for depth. This means that Akers is due for a heavy load, as some might say. 

If Matt Stafford and Cooper Kupp bounces back and the offense returns to even half of their super bowl form, Akers might be an absolute league winner this year.
