Dalton Schultz Fantasy Fantasy Football Four Factors
Dalton Schultz actually has a pretty strong pedigree among tight ends. In 2021 Schultz finished as the TE3 before receding to TE11 last year. Most people probably think that 2021 was the outlier year, considering it was his best by far. And that makes sense: his draft pedigree was poor and he never did much before then. He still gets a 7/10 pedigree score because of the TE3 finish.
For Dalton Schultz, consistency was another above average category. He only missed 2 games over the last 2 years and took the lion’s share of the snaps when he did play. His week-to-week variance was fairly normal. Still, for tight ends at the back of the top 12, a 5.5/10 consistency score is pretty impressive.
The trend score for Dalton Schultz is pretty interesting. If you only look at the 2021 and 2022 overall stats, you might think that he would get a huge negative score. He regressed pretty far overall from season to season.
But Dalton Schultz was saved by the end of his season last year. Between weeks 2 and 5 last year, Schultz accounted for net negative fantasy points. But from week 10 on, he broke 10 points 3 times and caught a total of 5 touchdowns. He came on very strong which saved him a 4/10 trend score.
Overall, the community is quite low on Dalton Schultz. His 2.5/10 consensus score indicates that the experts think that he will be a borderline startable player, maybe closer to a streaming option or a BYE week fill in. Looking at his pedigree and trend scores, 2.5/10 feels like a big overreaction to a slightly negative trend score. However, we’ll touch on that in the next section. It’s because he is now a Texan, not a Cowboy.
Dalton Schultz Stats Analysis
The only thing holding back Dalton Schultz this year is the fact he plays on the Texans. That team has many, many question marks. The receiving corps is weak with only Robert Woods and I guess John Metchie. This would give Dalton Schultz opportunities.
But worse is the uncertainty with a rookie QB. Rookie quarterbacks almost never support highly productive fantasy pass catchers. Especially on a team with few bright spots on offense, I would expect CJ Stroud to struggle quite a bit.
There is always a chance that the young QB uses Dalton Schultz like a safety blanket leading to a productive year. But that chance is probably remote. If anything, Stroud should be a clear downgrade from Dak Prescott.
