Dameon Pierce was an extremely exciting player last year. He took about two games to get going, but after that he was a bona fide fantasy stud. He was putting up monster games week-in, week-out. Until he wasn’t. I’m not sure what happened, but his touches plummeted. Then he got hurt.
This all amounted to a pretty disappointing second half of the season after an electric start. This adds up to a 2.5/10 pedigree score. Not only was his performance questionable due to a lackluster second half, his draft pedigree isn’t enough to dispel any fears.
Everything I said above is also reflected in Dameon Pierce’s trend and consistency scores being low. He had one of the worst trend scores of anyone we considered, roughly the top 150 fantasy players this year. Worse, because he started so strong and finished so badly, his consistency score is also in the dumps.
The experts still have him at a 6.5/10. This is probably a product of how dominant his first half of the season was. The tape looked really good. If his drop off really was just due to injury and he is healthy now, he is an absolute steal at his current price.

Multiple different outlets have stated pass protection is a problem with Dameon Pierce. What did the Texans do this offseason? They brought in Devin Singletary, one of the top rated pass protecting backs by PFF.
If you have a rookie quarterback, the best thing you can do is give him time. Time to read the defense, time to find the open receiver, and time to get comfortable. To me, this means that Devin Singletary will have a pretty hefty percentage of the snaps, potentially limiting Dameon Pierce’s workload.
