DJ Moore Fantasy Fantasy Football Four Factors
After his sophomore season, DJ Moore was placed near the top of many dynasty rankings lists. He put up 1175 yards in only 15 games and was only 22. The problem is, he never really got better from there. He didn’t get worse, either, but he peaked at a level which doesn’t correspond to elite long term value.
DJ Moore starts off with a 6.5/10 pedigree score This comes on the back of a WR18 and WR20 finish the last two years. These are solid back-end WR2 performances from DJ Moore.
DJ Moore has also been a very consistent fantasy player. First, he rarely misses any time – only 2 games his entire 5 year career. He also sees the field a lot when he is healthy, giving him many opportunities.
What makes DJ Moore more consistent, though, is his lack of dependence on touchdowns. In each of his 1,000 yard seasons, Moore has had 4 receiving touchdowns, a pretty small number. This means most of his points come from yards and catches. This leads to a more consistent player overall, a solid 7/10 by our metric.
Last year was a bit of a disappointment for Moore. It is hard to blame him after the QB carousel in Carolina and the departure of superstar teammate Christian McCaffrey. But if not for his high efficiency in touchdowns compared to normal, Moore would have had decidedly the worst year since he was a Rookie. His yards decreased by about 20-25%. This performance translates to a 4/10 trend score.
The experts actually have DJ Moore a bit higher than his pedigree score. While this might just be statistical noise, to me it says that the rankers have at least some faith in Justin Fields getting the ball to Moore. His 7/10 expert ranking correspond to about a mid WR2.
DJ Moore Stats Analysis
DJ Moore is the source of a ton of excitement for Bears fans. Many believe Justin Fields is ready to take the next step. If only Fields had good receivers to throw too, he would show his true ability. And it’s true, last year the Bears’ receivers were awful.
It is also true that DJ Moore is the best receiver the Bears have had in a few years. Is it enough though? Is DJ Moore truly that incredible? Even in his best season, Moore finished as the WR17. This year he is projected as an early WR3. I find it hard to believe that he is that big of a difference maker
