James Cook Fantasy Fantasy Football Four Factors

Going into the second year, there are lots of expectations for the RB with a famous last name. Buffalo has Superbowl-level expectations. Allen has MVP-level expectations. And James Cook has expectations to perform as well as his brother Dalvin.

Last year, it took a while for James Cook to see consistent work. He finished with only 6 performances that weren’t absolute disasters. He wasn’t a guy you wanted to be starting every week. This, plus his late second round draft score combine to a pretty poor 3/10 pedigree score.

Even worse, James Cook was extraordinarily inconsistent last year. This tends to be the case for rookies who are trying to find their way onto the field. We saw the same thing with Chris Olave. But James Cooks tayed inconsistent even as the season went on and his playin time increase. His 1/10 consistency score is a noteworthy part of his profile.

So, too, is his trend score. James Cook earned a perfect 10(!!) trend score. His means he was in the top 3 or 4 fantasy relevant players in trend. 3 of his last 5 weeks were huge weeks. Compared to his abysmal start to the season, James Cook earned his score.

Overall, the experts have mixed opinions on James Cook. He earned a 4.5/10 consensus score. This corresponds to a “sometimes starter”, not a guy you want to have in your lineup every week. He could be a good target for a 0RB strategy. Otherwise, you want to make sure you have your depth before you draft guys like this.

James Cook Stats Analysis

Damien Harris is a really interesting addition for Buffalo this year. I think he will be the clear #2 behind James Cook but will eat a significant amount of his carries. It will be interesting to see how their relationship evolves.

The bigger threat to James Cook’s success, though, is Josh Allen. First of all, everyone knows that Josh Allen will vulture all of the goal line scores for himself. It is what he does. But, if you remember the end of the season last year Josh Allen had a bit of an INT problem. If this continues, the offense might take a small step back, limiting the opportunities for James Cook.
