Russell Wilson Fantasy Fantasy Football Four Factors

I think it is entirely safe to say that Russell Wilson had the most disappointing fantasy season of anyone last year. It might even be one of the most disappointing seasons in the last decade. The Broncos went from in this discussion for a deep playoff run to having an absolutely laughable 5-12 season. With a good defense.

Russell Wilson is one of those players where their pedigree looks worse if you remember who they were a few years ago. But like Aaron Rodgers, in the last two years, Russell Wilson has been a pretty bad quarterback. Russ finished as the QB16 last year and similar the year before, earning him a 3.5/10 pedigree score.

For Russell Wilson, the consistency was pretty good. All quarterbacks tend to be more consistent than the average player because they play a lot and have tons of opportunities. But for Russ, his consistency isn’t a good thing. He consistently scores a mediocre amount of points. Still, his consistency rating is a 9/10.

Even worse for Russell Wilson fans is his trend score. A 4/10 trend is largely due to dropping from 17.5 to about 15 points per game last year. This roughly 15% decrease in production year over year is the reason for Wilson’s downward trend. One bright spot that may have saved this from being worse, though, is the end of Wilson’s season. In 3 of his last 4 games he put up more than 23 fantasy points. Is this sign of life or just a fluke against KC?

The experts were not a fan of Russell Wilson when making their power rankings this year. He earned a pretty putrid 3/10 ranking. In 1 QB leagues, this translates to “probably shouldn’t start unless he proves otherwise”. In 2 QB leagues, he is going to be started but you better hold your nose.

Do we really think Nathaniel Hackett is the problem? He might have been. Here is a fun stat.

Hackett was fired after week 15 last year. In the 2 remaining games, Wilson put up “vintage Russ” numbers, 23 points each week. If you truly believe that Hackett was the problem, then you can justify this opinion with the evidence I just gave! But you would also have to explain why Wilson’s stats were pretty bad in 2021, too, when Russell Wilson was with his old friend Pete Carroll in Seattle.
