The Data Jocks uses the “Fantasy Football Four Factors” system to help rate players for the upcoming season. Each of the four factors is a data-driven way to measure all aspects of a player’s profile.
The four factors are consensus rankings, pedigree and past success, performance trends over recent games, and consistency both in performance and snap count. These four factors are meant to provide more nuance in how a player has performed in the past and what they may be expected to do in the future.

How to Use Four Factors for Fantasy Football Rankings
Using the four factors system is straightforward. Your first step is to look at expert consensus rankings. There is no better place to start than by looking at what people who are paid to think about football think about various players.
But, if everyone only listened to what the experts think, fantasy football wouldn’t be very fun. The name of the game is figuring out what the “experts” (and your league-mates) got wrong. To do this, you use the pedigree, trend, and consistency categories.
Pedigree measures what a player has done in the past. If a player’s pedigree is much higher or much lower than their consensus ranking, there better be a good reason. It is up to you to decide whether or not this reason is a good one. Players whose consensus rankings are much lower than their pedigree score might be good bets.
Trend measures what a player has done recently. If somebody came on strong at the end of the season, then they will have a good trend score. Trend is perhaps the best way to find which players are over or underrated. Looking for players with high trend scores in later rounds might help find some diamonds in the rough. Looking for early players with low trend scores might help avoid busts.
Finally, we also look at a player’s consistency. It doesn’t matter if a player has huge weeks if they can’t be trusted enough to start every week. Consistent players are overall better than inconsistent ones. So, if you’re looking for safe picks in certain rounds, using the consistency column can help.
Most importantly, though, fantasy is about bringing together many different data sources to figure out for yourself who will be good or who will be bad. You will be right sometimes, and wrong just as often. But hopefully these data points help to skew your successes towards the former.
